1. What we book for yacht parties

What we book for yacht parties

We supply DJs, live bands, solo musicians, singers and dancers for private yacht charters, corporate boat events and Thames river cruises. The performer depends on your guest count, deck space and the mood you want. A DJ works well on smaller vessels with limited power; a live acoustic musician or singer suits intimate gatherings; a full band or dance troupe needs a bigger deck and solid power supply.

Corporate clients often book a DJ or live musician for 2 to 3 hours during a cocktail cruise or team dinner. Wedding and private party hosts may want entertainment for the full voyage, 3 to 4 hours, or just the arrival and reception period. We also arrange performers who can double as MC or host, which helps pace the evening and keeps energy up as guests move around the boat.

Many yacht operators and charter companies already have a sound system on board, but it is often basic. We can work with what exists or advise on hiring a better system if your performer needs it. That conversation happens once we know the boat and the act.

2. How to prepare your yacht for entertainment

How to prepare your yacht for entertainment

Boat space is tight, so we plan performance setup early. Tell us the deck layout, where guests will stand or sit, and whether the performer will be inside the cabin, on the flybridge or at deck level. A DJ needs a small flat surface (2m x 1m minimum) and access to power. A live musician or singer needs room to stand comfortably and, if amplified, a power point within reach.

Power is the biggest constraint. Most yachts have limited shore power or rely on generators. Check whether your boat has 230V or 110V outlets and where they are. Tell us the amp capacity. A decent sound system draws 10 to 15 amps; add any lighting and you may hit limits. Many boat operators have dealt with this before and can advise. If power is tight, we can book acoustic acts that need no amplification or work with battery-powered PA systems.

Noise limits matter. On the Thames between Putney and Tower Bridge, and in most UK marinas, there are curfews and decibel limits. The Port of London Authority has informal guidelines; most mooring locations ask entertainers to keep music under 85 dB after 11pm. We factor this in. Acoustic sets and lower-volume DJs work better in noise-sensitive areas. If you are moored at a central London location (Limehouse Basin, Wapping, Rotherhithe), the operator will tell you the rules.

Discuss weather backup. If your yacht party is outdoors on deck, heavy rain or wind can force a move inside. Smaller boats have limited indoor space. We plan for that and brief the performer on how to scale up or down.

3. Lead times and availability

Lead times and availability

Lead time depends on what you book. Our house DJs and established solo musicians are available with 2 to 3 weeks notice. Specialist acts (full bands, dancers, vocalists with a strong track record) need 3 to 4 weeks. Custom packages, like a DJ plus live saxophonist or a chosen set of dancers, need 4 to 6 weeks because we coordinate multiple acts and rehearse if needed.

Summer months (May to September) and the corporate Christmas party season (October to early December) book fast. If you want a specific performer or a high-end package, secure it 6 weeks out. Spring and autumn weekdays have more give. Last-minute bookings (less than 2 weeks) are possible if you are flexible on the act type or are willing to pay a rush fee.

We hold availability on a first-come basis. Once you send the date and details via our contact form, we confirm within 24 hours whether your preferred act is free. If not, we suggest alternatives at the same price point.

Act type Typical lead time Set length Space needed
DJ with sound system 2 to 3 weeks 2 to 4 hours 2m x 1m deck or cabin corner
Solo musician (acoustic) 2 to 3 weeks 1.5 to 3 hours 1.5m x 1.5m standing room
Live band (2 to 4 members) 4 to 6 weeks 2 to 3 hours 4m x 2m minimum, solid power
Dancers (1 to 2) 3 to 4 weeks 30 to 60 mins sets 3m x 2m open deck
Singer plus guitarist 3 to 4 weeks 2 to 3 hours 2m x 2m with power access
4. London Thames cruises and private charters

London Thames cruises and private charters

Thames river entertainment is busy. We work regularly with chartered yachts and party boat operators between Westminster and Greenwich. Corporate clients book venues like the Limehouse Cut or moored positions at Wapping and Rotherhithe for private events. Wedding couples hire boats for receptions or pre-ceremony drinks on the water.

The Thames has its quirks. Tide times affect mooring, and some locations have tighter noise restrictions than others. Bridges have low clearance, so tall sound rigs need to fit through. We know the constraints and advise on what works. A DJ or solo act is safer than a full band on a smaller charter boat. If your boat is under 20m, space for a live band is really tight.

Central London mooring locations include Limehouse Basin (popular for corporate and private events), Wapping Dock, Rotherhithe, and the Pool of London near Tower Bridge. Each has different curfew times and noise limits. Ask your yacht operator or charter company for specifics, and tell us so we can brief the performer.

Outside central London, boats often moor on quieter reaches. Hampton Court, Richmond and Henley are common for summer events. Noise restrictions are looser, and you have more room on deck. These locations work well for longer sets and higher-energy acts like live bands or dance performances.

5. Yacht parties outside London

Yacht parties outside London

We book yacht entertainment across the UK. Manchester has growing private charter demand on the Irwell; Birmingham has several event boat operators on the canal network. On the coast, Poole, Christchurch and the Solent near Southampton are busy for summer private yacht charters and corporate events.

Liverpool has a strong corporate yacht event scene, particularly around the waterfront. The Mersey is tidal and narrow in places, so space constraints are real. Edinburgh and Glasgow use smaller river cruises and loch-based boats more than ocean yachts, but the same entertainment rules apply. Bristol sees summer private events on the Avon Gorge and at Underfall Yard.

Cotswolds and country house venues sometimes incorporate a boat experience, particularly for wedding guests. Henley, Wallingford and Abingdon offer moored boat receptions. Lead times are the same as London: 2 to 4 weeks for established acts. Travel time for the performer may add a small fee for locations over 100 miles from London.

Tell us your location and the boat type when you enquire. We can advise whether a performer needs to travel and whether local acts might be cheaper.

6. Insurance and risk management

Insurance and risk management

Venues and yacht operators will ask for proof of Public Liability Insurance (PLI) for the performer. We require all our entertainers to carry minimum 6 million pounds cover. Most do; some smaller acts may need to buy it. We confirm PLI at booking and provide a certificate before the event.

Risk assessments are standard. Boat environments have specific hazards: slippery decks, limited emergency exits, and noise exposure. Your yacht operator or charter company will have a risk assessment template. We complete it with the performer's details and return it to the venue. It typically covers stage setup, weather contingency, guest safety around the performance area and emergency procedures.

Some venues also ask for a sound check visit or a pre-event call with the performer. For complex setups (large sound system, multiple acts, choreography), a site visit is sensible. We arrange that. For simpler bookings, a detailed tech spec call the week before usually suffices.

Weather is a risk on the water. If your party is outdoors and conditions worsen, the performer will move inside or reschedule if conditions are unsafe. We build this into the contract and advise you on the cancellation and rescheduling terms upfront.

7. Frequently asked questions

How much does a yacht party entertainer cost?

A solo DJ costs roughly 400 to 600 pounds for 3 hours. A live musician (acoustic guitarist or pianist) is 350 to 500 pounds. A full band is 1,500 to 3,000 pounds. Dancers start at 300 to 500 pounds per performer per set. Prices vary by act experience, travel distance, and whether sound equipment is included. Request a quote with your date and act preference; we confirm the exact fee within 24 hours.

Do you supply the sound system?

Most yachts have a basic system. We check compatibility with your performer's needs. If the boat's system is inadequate, we can arrange hire of a portable PA system, which adds 150 to 300 pounds to the cost. Tell us the boat's onboard setup, and we advise whether you need to upgrade.

What if the weather is bad?

Outdoor yacht events are weather-dependent. We plan a backup: either moving the performance inside the cabin or to a sheltered area of the deck. For severe conditions (heavy rain, high winds), we may recommend rescheduling. The contract clarifies what counts as unworkable weather and outlines rescheduling terms. Most performers will move with the guests and adapt the set.

Can the entertainer act as a host or MC?

Yes. DJs and some solo musicians can introduce songs, make announcements or lead simple games. This works well for corporate events and milestone celebrations. Tell us if you want an MC element, and we book an act comfortable doing it. No extra cost usually, but more complex hosting (structured game running, guest interaction) may need a dedicated host, which we can arrange separately.

How early can the performer arrive for setup?

Most yachts allow access 30 to 60 minutes before the event start. The performer will do a sound check in that window. If you need earlier access (for example, on a charter boat that is coming from a marina further away), tell us and we arrange it with the boat operator. Arrival times are confirmed in the final event brief, one week before.

What if we want multiple acts, like a DJ and a live band?

We can arrange it. Coordination takes longer (4 to 6 weeks lead time) and costs more, but it is common for larger yacht parties. One act typically performs while the other sets up, or they alternate sets. We manage the handover and timing. Discuss your vision in the initial brief, and we build a package with costs for each element.
