What is Ayala dance
Ayala is a traditional Emirati folk dance with roots in Bedouin tribal culture. The performers, always men, stand in a line or circle facing each other. They hold wooden sticks and beat them together in time with live drums while chanting rhythmic vocals. The dance is sometimes called al yowla or the stick dance. It is vigorous, rhythmic and visually striking. Guests find it energetic and deeply connected to Emirati heritage. The performance is always live: drums, sticks and voices. No backing track.
2. Where Ayala dancers perform in the UKWhere Ayala dancers perform in the UK
We book Ayala troupes across London and nationwide. In London, we place them at hotel ballrooms in Mayfair and Park Lane, City livery halls, private members clubs, warehouse venues in East London and Shoreditch, Thames river boats and private addresses. Outside London we book events in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol and the Cotswolds. We also arrange performances at country house venues and marquee weddings across the home counties. Regional travel adds cost and requires longer notice. Email us the venue town or city and we will confirm availability and quote delivery.
3. What you need to tell usWhat you need to tell us
To book Ayala dancers, give us the event date, start time, venue name and full address, guest count and the type of event (wedding, corporate, private party, gala dinner). Tell us if the performance is indoors or outdoors and whether there is a raised stage or if the dancers will perform at ground level. Let us know the room acoustics: a small private dining room needs a different brief than a 500-guest hotel ballroom. If your venue has a preferred performance time, tell us that too. The more detail you give upfront, the faster we can confirm the booking and send a formal quote.
4. Space, power and logisticsSpace, power and logistics
Ayala dancers need a clear rectangular performance area roughly 6 metres by 4 metres. If you have a stage, that is ideal. If not, floor space in the room works well. They do not need amplification for the drums or sticks, but chanting will carry 15 to 20 metres in a quiet room. Outdoor performances require shelter if rain is forecast. For outdoor events, check your venue's noise limits: a drum performance can reach 85 to 90 decibels at close range, and some local councils have curfews on amplified or acoustic music after 10pm or 11pm. City livery halls and hotel ballrooms usually permit this type of entertainment without issue. Always check your venue's specific terms.
The troupe will need a private space to change and store personal items. Most hotels and event venues provide a green room or side room. If your venue does not have one, let us know and we will advise. The dancers arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the performance to warm up and coordinate with your event team on timing and music cues.
5. Lead time and availabilityLead time and availability
For London events, we recommend booking 2 to 4 weeks in advance. For events outside London, allow 4 to 8 weeks to confirm travel and logistics. Popular dates in summer and around Christmas book up quickly. If your event is coming up soon, contact us anyway: we sometimes have cancellations or can suggest alternative dates. Last-minute bookings within 10 days are possible but carry a premium and depend on the dancers' current schedule. The sooner you contact us, the better your chances of securing the exact date and time you want.
6. Venue insurance and riskVenue insurance and risk
Most UK venues ask for proof of public liability insurance before any performance. We hold professional entertainment insurance that covers Ayala dancers and all our live acts. Your venue will ask for a certificate. We provide this as standard. Some larger venues, particularly hotels and conference centres, also request a simple risk assessment or technical rider. We can supply both. The risk is very low: the dancers are trained professionals and the only moving parts are the sticks and drums, which stay within the performance area. Country house venues and outdoor marquee events sometimes have additional requirements: tell us your venue's requirements and we will make sure everything is in place before the performance date.
7. Set length and pricingSet length and pricing
A standard Ayala performance runs 20 to 30 minutes depending on the energy and crowd response. The dancers can also do shorter sets of 10 to 15 minutes if you want them as part of a larger entertainment line-up. We also book other dance acts and live musicians if you want to mix styles.
Pricing depends on the number of dancers (usually a troupe of 4 to 6 men), performance length, date, location and travel distance. A 4-person troupe for 20 to 30 minutes in London typically costs between 500 and 1200 GBP as a guide range. Regional bookings cost more due to travel time and accommodation. We will give you a firm quote once you have provided the date, venue and full details. Quotes are valid for 7 days.

Frequently asked questions
Can Ayala dancers perform outdoors?
Yes, provided there is shelter from rain and a defined performance area. Outdoor venues such as country house gardens, marquee weddings and open-air festivals work well. The dancers need firm, level ground and protection from strong wind. Confirm your venue's noise restrictions with the local council if you are outside a hotel or city venue, as drums can carry over boundaries. We will check this before confirming the booking.
Do the dancers provide their own drums and sticks?
Yes. The troupe arrives with all performance equipment including drums, sticks, costumes and any accessories. You provide only the performance space and a comfortable changing area. No sound system or music backing track is needed: the performance is entirely live and acoustic.
How many dancers will perform?
A standard Ayala troupe is 4 to 6 men. Four is typical and creates a strong visual impact. Six gives a bigger, more immersive show but requires slightly more space. Tell us your preference and we will confirm who is available on your date. All our dancers are trained professionals with years of experience.
What if my event is in a few weeks?
Contact us immediately. For London events 2 to 4 weeks away, we can usually confirm availability. For regional events or very short notice (under 10 days), we may have limited availability and will charge a premium. There is no harm in asking: email us the date, venue and details and we will give you an honest answer on whether we can make it work.
Will the dancers work with other entertainment acts?
Yes. Ayala works well alongside live bands and other performers. For example, you could have a DJ playing earlier in the evening, then bring in the Ayala dancers for a 20-minute set as a highlight moment. We also arrange corporate entertainment combining multiple acts. Tell us what else you are planning and we will coordinate timing and logistics.
Do you provide entertainment for corporate events and team celebrations?
Yes. Ayala is popular at corporate galas, product launches, company parties and award dinners. It creates a memorable moment, breaks up formal programming and gives guests a talking point. We have booked Ayala for corporate clients across London and the UK. Email us details of your event and we will advise on timing and presentation.
