What You Get When You Hire Samba Dancers
Brazilian samba dancers bring energy, colour and live movement to your event. Our performers are trained in traditional samba, samba no pe (upright samba), afro-Brazilian rhythms and contemporary Brazilian fusion styles. They work in costume, often with percussion, and can interact with guests or perform as a staged show depending on what suits your event.
Most bookings fall into three formats: a roaming performance where dancers move through your venue and guests join in, a set performance on a stage or dance floor for 15 to 30 minutes, or background entertainment during a reception. The choice depends on your venue layout, guest count and how immersive you want the experience to be.
Unlike pre-recorded music, live samba entertainment responds to the room. Dancers read the energy and pace the performance accordingly. For corporate events, this means team engagement without forcing participation. For weddings, it adds a focal point for guests who want to dance and a visual highlight for the photographs.
2. Where we book samba entertainmentWhere We Book Samba Entertainment in London and the UK
In London, we regularly book samba dancers into hotel ballrooms in Mayfair and Park Lane, City livery halls and banqueting suites, East London warehouse venues, rooftop bars, Thames river boats, garden venues in Chelsea and Notting Hill, and private homes across the capital. Outside London, we cover Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, the Cotswolds and country house venues throughout southern England.
Samba entertainment works well at weddings (receptions and evening parties), corporate gala dinners, product launches, hotel openings, private birthday and anniversary celebrations, festival entertainment and marquee events. The performer travels to you and adapts to whatever space you have, though some venues work better than others for staging and sound.
If you are in a smaller town or rural area and unsure whether we service it, contact us with your postcode and we will confirm availability and any additional travel costs.
3. Booking lead time and costBooking Lead Time and Cost
We ask for a two to four week booking window where possible, though we sometimes accommodate shorter timescales depending on performer availability. Booking early (six weeks or more) gives you choice of act and often better pricing.
Samba dancers typically cost between GBP 400 and GBP 1,200 for a 30-minute performance, depending on whether you are booking a solo dancer, a pair, a trio or a full samba band with live drums and percussion. London bookings usually sit in the lower to mid range of that spectrum. Travel outside London, equipment hire and additional performance hours push the price upward.
We quote per booking based on what you need. Send the event date, venue address, town or city, expected guest count and what type of performance you want (roaming, staged, or mixed) through our contact form or email, and we will return a custom quote within 24 hours.
4. What your venue needs to provideWhat Your Venue Needs to Provide
Samba dancers need surprisingly little, but the specifics matter for safety and sound quality.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Performance space | A clear area 3m by 3m minimum for staged performance. Roaming performances need accessible floor space (no steps or narrow aisles). Outdoor venues must be level ground. |
| Sound and music | A PA system if live drums and percussion are included. Solo or pair performances often use backing tracks (needs speaker and auxiliary input or Bluetooth). Test audio levels before guests arrive. |
| Power supply | Standard 13A socket within 5 metres of the performance area. Outdoor or temporary venues should have weatherproof access or a generator. |
| Changing area | A private, secure space (green room, office or back room) for the performer to prepare and store belongings. |
| Lighting | Adequate ambient light or stage lights if the venue is dim. Samba costumes rely on visibility to have impact. Outdoor evening events need spotlights or LED uplighting. |
Most London hotel ballrooms and banqueting venues have all of this as standard. Smaller venues, outdoor spaces and private homes may need to arrange some elements. We discuss this during the booking call so there are no surprises on the day.
5. Insurance and venue requirementsInsurance and Venue Requirements
Professional performers carry public liability insurance (PLI). We provide a copy of our PLI certificate to your venue on request. Most venues ask for this as part of their risk management, particularly if hiring through an agency rather than booking a solo act direct.
City venues, hotel chains and corporate event spaces often require a risk assessment form or a completed health and safety checklist before the performer arrives. This is standard practice and typically takes 10 minutes to fill in. We can help you complete it or provide a template of our own.
Noise levels are relevant if your venue has neighbours or operates under a licence. Most samba performances with live percussion sit around 85 to 95 decibels (loud conversation to a busy bar). If your venue has a strict noise curfew (which some London venues do after 11 pm), let us know and we can adjust the act to use backing tracks instead of live drums, or shorten the performance.
6. Samba act lengths and stylesSamba Act Lengths and Styles
Samba performances are usually booked in 15, 20, 30 or 45-minute slots. A 15-minute opener works well for formal events where you want impact without disrupting proceedings. A 30-minute performance is standard for receptions and parties where the dancers become a feature of the evening. Longer slots (45 minutes or more) suit festival entertainment, extended wedding receptions or events where dance participation is encouraged.
Styles vary. Traditional samba de escola uses brighter costumes and higher energy. Samba no pe is sensual and upright. Afro-Brazilian blends samba with African-influenced movement and rhythm. Many of our performers offer a mix within a single performance, building energy over the set length.
You can book solo dancers (one performer), pairs (often choreographed couple work), trios or full bands with live percussion. A pair is popular for weddings because the interaction between dancers tells a story. A trio or band suits larger venues and corporate events where you want an immersive Brazilian atmosphere.
If you want a specific style or a particular song worked into the performance, mention it when you contact us and we will confirm whether it is possible and if there is an additional choreography fee.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do samba dancers provide their own music or do I need a DJ?
Solo and pair performances typically use backing tracks played through your venue's PA system or a portable speaker. We provide the music files or can connect via Bluetooth if the venue has the equipment. Full samba bands include live drummers and percussionists, so no backing track is needed. You do not need to hire a separate DJ, though you might want one for the rest of your event.
Can samba dancers work at outdoor events or marquee weddings?
Yes, provided the ground is level and weather-proof (or the performer stays under cover). Outdoor evening events need good lighting so the costumes are visible. Rain does not stop samba, but very high winds can make it uncomfortable for the performer. Marquee weddings work well; discuss flooring, power supply and any noise restrictions with the marquee company beforehand.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Two to four weeks is standard. We book further ahead if you give us the date early, especially for peak wedding season (May to October) or major corporate events. Last-minute bookings within a week are sometimes possible; email us with your date and we will see what we can do.
Can the dancers teach guests how to samba during the performance?
Yes. Many of our performers are experienced at bringing guests into the action, teaching simple steps or encouraging participation without making anyone uncomfortable. Let us know during booking if guest participation is important to you and we will match you with a performer who enjoys that style.
What happens if my event is cancelled or rescheduled?
Cancellation terms are confirmed in your booking agreement. Generally, cancellations more than four weeks ahead have a smaller fee; cancellations closer to the date are subject to a larger deposit or full fee. Rescheduling to another date within a reasonable timeframe is usually free if the performer is available. We keep it fair and discuss the specifics when you book.
Are samba dancers suitable for all ages and cultures?
Samba is a global entertainment form enjoyed by all ages. Our performers are trained to be respectful and professional in diverse settings. If your event has cultural or religious considerations, tell us when you contact us and we will discuss the appropriate level of performance. We have worked with corporate, private and community events across London with many different backgrounds represented.
