AERIAL ENTERTAINMENT

Helium Balloon Show for Events in London and the UK

A performer suspended from a giant helium balloon creates an overhead spectacle. Music, lighting and aerial acrobatics combine to hold attention for 8 to 15 minutes.

Quick answer

A helium balloon show is an aerial acrobatic performance where a trained performer hangs from a large helium-filled balloon and executes spins, tricks and graceful movements in mid-air. The act works well at corporate events, private parties, hotel galas and marquee weddings across the UK. A typical set runs 8 to 15 minutes. You need to confirm the venue ceiling height, available floor space and local fire regulations before booking.

1. What a helium balloon show includes

What a helium balloon show includes

The core act is one or two aerialists suspended by harness from a large inflated helium balloon. They perform controlled spins, inverting tricks and flowing arm movements to music. The balloon itself becomes part of the visual, and you can brand it with a company logo or choose colour-changing LED panels if you want it lit at night. The performer wears fitted costumes, often with LED elements that add to the aerial silhouette.

A typical set lasts 8 to 12 minutes at a private event, or up to 15 minutes for a large corporate celebration. The act works best as a stand-alone centrepiece during a key moment in your event: the arrival of guests, the start of dinner, or a special toast. Because it holds attention overhead, it works well for audiences of 50 to 300 people in a single space.

You can add live music from a DJ or a band, or run it to a backing track. Some venues and planners also combine the helium show with ground-level acrobatic performers or dancers to extend the spectacle, though that requires more floor space and coordination.

2. Space, height and venue requirements

Space, height and venue requirements

The single most important factor is ceiling height. The helium balloon needs a minimum of 6 metres of clear vertical space, ideally 7 to 8 metres. This rules out many standard hotel function rooms, but works well in ballrooms, atriums, warehouses and marquees. London venues that regularly host aerial acts include the larger hotel ballrooms in Mayfair and Park Lane, City of London livery halls with high ceilings, and warehouse spaces in East London. Country house venues and marquee weddings work if the ceiling height is confirmed.

Horizontally, you need a minimum 5 by 5 metre floor space clear of pillars, low fixtures and guests. The balloon itself is large and will sway slightly during the performance. Confirm with your venue manager that the ceiling is clear of sprinkler heads, ceiling panels and light rigs that could interfere with the harness rigging.

If you are planning a Thames riverboat event, a large marquee wedding or an outdoor celebration, let us know early. Outdoor shows are weather-dependent and require additional rigging and safety measures.

3. Booking lead times and availability

Booking lead times and availability

Book a helium show at least 3 to 4 weeks in advance if possible. This gives time to confirm the venue layout, arrange any necessary risk assessments, and ensure our performer is available on your date. For London events we typically have availability within 2 to 3 weeks, but for peak seasons (May through September, and December) earlier booking is better.

Shorter notice is sometimes possible, particularly for corporate events in central London. Contact us with your date, venue name, town and expected guest count and we will confirm availability and next steps.

For events outside London such as Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol or the Cotswolds, we usually need 4 to 6 weeks to arrange travel. We work with regional partners and will confirm the performer and any additional costs before you confirm the booking.

4. Combining it with other acts

Combining it with other acts

A helium balloon show works well as a standalone act, but many event planners extend the entertainment by combining it with ground-based performers. You might add acrobats, dancers or aerial silks performed at ground level, before or after the balloon act. This requires more floor space, additional setup time and separate insurance for each act.

If you are booking dancers in London or other aerial performers for a corporate gala or wedding, we can coordinate the timing and choreography so the acts flow together. This works particularly well for larger corporate events or hotel galas where you want a longer entertainment block, say 20 to 30 minutes total.

Tell us at the enquiry stage if you want to add other acts. We will price accordingly and handle the logistics.

5. Day and night performance options

Day and night performance options

The helium balloon show works in daylight, lit by standard venue lighting, or as a night-time spectacular with LED lighting and colour-changing effects. A daytime performance is straightforward and relies on the sheer visual novelty of the aerial work. It suits corporate lunches, afternoon receptions and daytime weddings.

For evening events, the balloon is often lit with programmable LED panels that can change colour, pulse or create patterns throughout the performance. The performer may wear LED-trimmed costumes to enhance the effect. This adds production value and works particularly well in hotel ballrooms, marquees or warehouse venues after dark.

Night performances do add to the cost and setup time. Discuss this with us when you brief the act, and we will advise on what is possible at your specific venue.

6. Insurance, risk assessments and fire codes

Insurance, risk assessments and fire codes

Most UK venues, particularly hotels, livery halls and corporate event spaces, will ask for proof of public liability insurance before the performance goes ahead. We carry full PLI cover and will provide the certificate to your venue or event manager. The cover is standard and should meet any reasonable venue requirement, but confirm this with your venue when you book.

Some larger venues, particularly in the City of London and at major hotel groups, may request a formal risk assessment. This is straightforward: it covers rigging points, the weight of the balloon and performer, audience positioning and emergency procedures. We work through this quickly and will provide the assessment to your venue or health and safety officer well before the performance date.

Fire codes vary by venue type and local authority. A marquee on a private property has different fire regulations to a hotel ballroom or a warehouse venue. Your venue manager will advise on any specific curfews or noise restrictions. We will work within them. Some marquee venues impose curfews at 11pm or midnight; some hotel ballrooms require entertainment to finish by 10pm. Confirm this with the venue and pass the information to us when you book.

7. Cost and what to ask for a quote

Cost and what to ask for a quote

A helium balloon show in London typically costs between 1,200 and 2,500 GBP depending on performance length, whether LED lighting and colour-change effects are included, and the specific venue. This is a guide range to confirm with a quote. Factors that affect the price include:

  • Performance length: 8 minutes costs less than 15 minutes.
  • LED lighting and colour effects add to the cost.
  • Travel time: events more than 30 minutes from central London may incur additional fees.
  • Setup and breakdown time at the venue.
  • Whether you want a second performer or combined acts.

For events outside London (Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool and country house venues), add travel and accommodation costs, typically 300 to 800 GBP depending on distance and whether the performer needs to stay overnight. This varies significantly by location, so always ask for a full quote.

The quote will also include PLI insurance. Risk assessments and any additional venue requirements are usually included, but confirm this when you ask for the quote.

What happens if the venue is too small or the ceiling is too low?

If your venue does not meet the height and space requirements, we can sometimes offer a ground-based aerial act such as silk aerialists or hand balancing, or recommend alternative entertainment. Get in touch with your venue details and we will advise what is possible.

Can the balloon be branded with our company logo?

Yes. The helium balloon can be printed with a company logo, brand colours or event branding. This adds a small amount to the setup time and cost. Discuss this when you ask for a quote and provide artwork or a brief description of what you want printed.

How much notice do I need to give?

Ideally 4 weeks for London events and 6 weeks for UK-wide bookings. Shorter notice may be possible depending on availability. Email us with your date, venue and guest count and we will confirm what we can do.

Is the show suitable for outdoor events or gardens?

Outdoor shows are weather-dependent because wind can affect the balloon. They are possible on calm, dry days but require different rigging and safety measures. Tell us if you are planning an outdoor event and we will advise on feasibility and any additional costs.

Can I combine the helium show with other entertainment?

Yes. Many planners add dancers, musicians or ground-level acrobats. This requires more space and setup time. We can coordinate this and price each act separately. See our pages on hiring musicians in London and corporate entertainment for more options.

What if the event is a private party?

A helium balloon show works well for private parties and celebrations, including milestone birthdays, anniversaries and family gatherings. The same space and height requirements apply. Pricing may vary for private events. Get in touch and we will tailor a quote for your occasion.
